Lego Marble Track...Mommy and Jack Style

I remember when I first stopped working and stayed at home I was quite serious about the whole venture.  I spent much time planning way cool activities and crafts.  Then somewhere along the way this slowed.  I suppose it coincided with a newfound interest in friends as opposed to playing with Mom.  Every once in while though I am totally game for a new project and we GET INTO IT.

Sometimes though the projects can go a little wrong.  Remember the great Lego sort that led to...well sorted Lego.  Ben was at school today and Jackie decided he wanted to make a Lego marble track.  He had been so patient while I did housework that this seemed like a request that deserved granting.  So we headed to the nicely sorted pile of Lego (suppose it was good for something if not it's intended purpose!) and got to work.

Mommy try try tried to make a motorized elevator but we soon realized this was not to be.  Ok so in reality I spent many minutes trying to figure out a way to make the motor work for us and Jack finally said:

"Mom, no motor ok?"
"Ok Jack"  to self:  "Thank goodness!"

So we went with a regular non-motorized marble track and I think the result if not particularly innovative was just right for Jack and his Legoly challenged Momma.

Lego, The Final Chapter

Anyone who knows me knows that I am pretty persistent.  Slow but steady I usually get the job done but sometimes one has to know when they have bitten off more than they can chew.  I am sad to say the Lego project is no more.

No longer could I stand the Lego staring at me from beside my bed, mocking me.  Alright so maybe those were just the voices in my head but from wherever they originated I knew I could live with them no more and I also knew that there was no way I was going to make it through all 22 Lego kits.  NO WAY!

So it was time to release my Lego babies back into the general population, back to the wild that is the hands of my two boys and their many Lego building friends.

Yes, it is true that I feel on some level I have failed my boys but I like to think that this is a project we can revisit when they are older.  I have saved every Lego instruction booklet for SOME reason right?  Until then my boys have the most nicely sorted Lego collection EVER!

Lego Update

Soooo the only update is that the Lego was moved up to my room. We had to move it because we were having a dinner party and a surprise party so I being the control freak that I am was terrified that the children would touch or even *GASP* mix up the sorted Lego.

So there it sits in my room mocking me. I see it first thing in the morning and last thing at the end of my day. I am sure it is laughing at me..."haha crazy lady...many have tried this before you and have FAILED".

I am starting to get worried that Don will find me when the boys are at school legoing away just to prove that the two days we (I) spent sorting the darn Lego were not in vain.

Lego Update: let the building commence

Well it took us (mostly Momma) two days to sort all the Lego. That stage is officially done (thank goodness-I actually dreamed about Lego for two nights in a row). Today we started to build the two camper van kits. Poor Ben didn't realize how difficult the build would be. I think he expected it to go really smoothly like when you bring a kit home. His disappointment and my frustration quickly became evident! "I need a blue 4 piecer with a thingy on the side, are you looking for it Ben?" "I'm looking but it is hard to find" "Are you watching t.v. or looking for the blue piece Ben? Because if you aren't helping then I am not going to keep building..." So we stopped. Best to save this project for the ultra patient days.

Daddy just laughs at the whole idea. You know the stuff you say is for the kids when really they end up having no interest and the parents are stuck taking care of it. He thinks it is MY summer project. Like the time I got hermit crabs or the time Daddy had fish for a whole year until he finally got sick of taking care of them and gave them away to a friend of ours. This may be true. However I have a vision of all the Lego put together and the boys looking at me and beaming with happiness. And so, I Lego on.

My strategy is to do the simple kits first and work my way up to the larger kits. Let me know if you have a better strategy, I need the help...

Lego Update: The sorting saga continues...

So we are in day 2 of the Lego sort. The boys are excited and have begun to dream of having all of their beloved Lego kits put together once again. I have warned that this venture could take a bit of time but they choose not to hear those words instead they ask to have a look at the collection of instruction booklets. Ben bravely tried to assemble a camping van but soon realized that until the sorting was complete it would be a fruitless effort.

So the sorting continues. At this point the boys are not really helping anymore so I have three bowls left to sort and then let the building begin!!!!

Crazy ideas best left alone

It is a rainy day here today. Rain all day. A good day to be inside watching movies and doing some heavy duty play. Wish us luck. Mommy decided we should sort all the Lego so we can rebuild the kits...silly Mommy.
